Mission The American Association of Homeopathic Pharmacists is a non profit Corporation with the principle mission of: promoting excellence in the practice of homeopathic pharmacy, manufacturing, marketing and distribution by supporting the requirements, criteria and published guidelines in the HPRS, relevant Federal statutes, as well as other industry regulations/compendia, to provide safe, effective homeopathic medicines to consumers, retailers and healthcare practitioners.

Membership Our membership includes manufactures and marketers of homeopathic medicines individual pharmacists and others interested in the development of homeopathy in The United States. In 2006 AAHP membership included 20 homeopathic (about half of the homeopathic companies active in the United States), and 3 individual members.

Business Volume Combined member annual product sales are estimated at above $200,000,000.

Activities The AAHP publishes a monthly newsletter, sponsors educational seminars and works with government agencies in pursuit of its mission. Members benefit from comprehensive up to date scientific and commercial information and expert legal representation on critical regulatory issues.

Organization The AAHP is managed by a board of directors. The Board of Directors are elected by the membership and oversees the work of seven committees.

Products Homeopathic medicines are used to relieve many types of acute and chronic conditions, including allergies, bruises, burning pains, cold sores, cough, colds, flu, digestion troubles, drowsiness, sneezing, growing pains, hay fever, hot flashes, indigestion, insect bites, irritability, hypersensitivity, itchiness, muscle and leg cramps, muscle pains, nasal congestion, nervous anticipation, diarrhea, bladder infections, perspiration, post-nasal drip, restless legs, runny and stuffy noses, acne, menopause, teething, tobacco craving, worry and more.

Distribution Homeopathic products are widely distributed in most retail channels. Homeopathic medicines can be found in more than 30,000 outlets nationwide including: Drug stores, Health Food Stores, Mass merchandise stores and Doctors offices.

Regulation Since the passing of the federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act in 1938, homeopathic medicines have been regulated as drugs by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Labeling Being regulated as a drug, as opposed to a food or dietary supplement, ensures that homeopathic medicines adhere to drug labeling specifications. Like packaging for conventional over-the-counter drugs, packaging for homeopathic medicines must state specific diseases, ailments or symptoms for which the product is to be used, the concentration of an active substance or substances contained therein, the recommended dosage and the mode of application. These clear specifications make choices easier for consumers and guidance easier for retailers.
