Marketing of Homeopathic Drugs in a Changing Market
'Marketing and the Regulatory Landscape - In a growing market for Homeopathic Drugs' was the topic of a presentation by Alvin J. Lorman, Esq., counsel for the AAHP at recent industry meetings. This presentation was the key note address at the semi-annual meeting of the AAHP, the American Association of Homeopathic Pharmacists, the trade association of homeopathic drug manufactures and marketers.
The message for industry members was that near double digit growth in homeopathic drug sales coupled with the expanding presence of homeopathic products in the mass market are reshaping the marketing landscape. There is greater scrutiny at all marketing touch points including labeling, claims and advertising.
Lorman presented an overview of actions by the NAD (National Advertising Division of the National Council of Better Business Bureaus) involving homeopathic drugs spanning 2003 to the present. "Claims substantiation and consistency in a product's claims across all forms of media have never been more important", Lorman stressed, reminding manufacturers and marketers that "...documentation for claims and substantiation files must be an integral part of every homeopathic product's development and marketing program."
This presentation set the tone for the AAHP sponsored industry events spanning two days of presentations concerning the marketing of homeopathic drugs. Meetings included a panel presentation of 'Marketing Best Practices for Homeopathic Drugs' which featured speakers from Drug Store News, the Natural Marketing Institute (NMI) and The Sperry Group, among others, along with member and board of directors meetings.
